OK, so I have to write about our trip to the Cemetery. There are several like this one all around the city. It was one of those Latin ones with buildings for tombs, instead of in the ground graves. Families have owned these for hundreds of years, and they can have several people buried in one of them. They don't embalm the bodies here, they bury them in a wooden box that will brake down quickly, let the body decompose (sorry, going to get a little bit graphic here, skip this part if you'd like), then dispose of everything but the bones, label them, tuck them back in the tomb, and make room for a new member of the family to join the group. Hadn't really heard of this process before. But the most interesting part was the worker, Shawn, who gave us the tour. We didn't go intending to get a tour, we just walked in and he jumped at us and just started yackin' away. He's been a caretakers there for 20 or something years, so knows his way around. Well, he was slightly drunk and not exactly a classy kind of guy, kept hitting on Diane, swearing he knew her and that they were probably married in their former lives, and he wouldn't answer our questions straight out. He had to tell us all sorts of stories, take us to this tomb, then this one, and showed us that open one in the picture so we could see how it all worked. We're not sure how much of what he told us was completely accurate, but it was entertaining nonetheless. A very interesting excursion!
